EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A goal in the final 4.6 seconds ended the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team hopes of an upset, losing 1-0 to #9 Quincy University Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 4-9-0 overall and 2-7-0 GLVC, while Quincy remains perfect at 13-0-0, 10-0-0 GLVC.
With seconds counting down, Quincy freshman forward Becky Fleming sent a desperation shot at the Screaming Eagles' goal that skipped past USI junior goalkeeper
Meagan Homolla (Portage, Indiana) and into the back of the net. The game winner was Fleming's 12th goal of the season.
Homolla had been a wall in goal for the Eagles through more than 89 minutes between the posts. She had eight saves while facing 19 Quincy shots, nine on-goal.
Offensively, USI was unable to get anything going and was only able to register one shot on-goal.
The Eagles concluded the three-game homestand 1-2-0, returning to the road in the GLVC next weekend. USI travels to the University of Missouri-St. Louis on October 6 and the University of Missouri-Rolla on October 8.
