USI completes sweep with win at Rockhurst

Kansas City, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team completed a GLVC road sweep with a 87-64 victory at Rockhurst University Saturday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri. USI raised its record 19-2 overall, 8-2 GLVC, while Rockhurst fell to 7-10, 3-6 GLVC.

The GLVC road trip sweep was the second straight for the Eagles since splitting their first road trip back in December.

After Rockhurst scored the first bucket of the game, USI took control with a 7-0 run and never looked back. USI increased the margin to 16 points, 29-13, in the first half and led at halftime, 34-23.

The second half saw USI continue to extend its lead. The Eagles would lead by as many as 22 points until the 23-point final score of 87-64.

USI continued to be hot from the field, shooting 62.5 percent during the first half (15-23) and 60 percent for the game (30-50). The Eagles have shot 60 percent or better seven times this season.

Leading USI today was junior guard Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana), who had 21 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 27 points. Senior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) followed Hall in the scoring column with 16 points, 12 coming in the first half, while junior forward/center Keith Christmas (Gary, Indiana) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.

The Eagles return to the friendly confines of the Physical Activities Center Thursday when they begin a two-game homestand. USI will host the University of Indianapolis Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and #4 Saint Joseph's College Saturday at 3:15 p.m.
