EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana basketball team saw its 10-game winning streak and its 32-game home winning streak stopped in overtime, 78-77, by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI falls to 17-2 overall and 6-2 GLVC, while SIUE goes to 11-3, 5-2 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles found themselves down 15 points at halftime, 42-27, after the Cougars made a 17-6 run to end the first half.
In the second half, the Eagles outscored the Cougars, 41-26, to tie the game. USI tied the game, 65-65, with 2:07 to play and took a brief three-point lead 68-65 on a three-point field goal by senior guardÂ

SIUE's junior forward Mike Hardiek tied the score and sent the game into overtime by hitting a jumper and a foul shot with 58 seconds to play.
The overtime saw two ties and six lead changes with SIUE winning the period, 10-9, and the game 78-77. SIUE sophomore guard J.B. Jones hit the game-winner with 1:36 to play. The Eagles had two chances to retake the lead in the final minute, but could not convert.

Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) posted his eighth double-double of the year with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Thompson was followed in the scoring column by junior forward/centerÂ
Keith Christmas (Gary, Indiana), who had a double-double with 17 points and a team-best 12 rebounds. Junior guard/forwardÂ
Marty Wise (New Orleans, Louisiana) also grabbed double-digit rebounds with 10.
USI continues GLVC action on the road next week, traveling to Drury University and Rockhurst University for the first time. The Eagles will play at Drury Thursday at 8 p.m. and at Rockhurst Saturday at 3 p.m.
