EVANSVILLE, Ind. –University of Southern Indiana sophomore forward
Julie Collins (Merrillville, Indiana) gave the Screaming Eagles a 1-0 victory on an unassisted goal with 15:44 to play to defeat the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field.
Collins scored from 18 yards out when her shot deflected off the head of a UMSL defender and into the goal. She scored three of the Eagles' seven goals in the homestand sweep of UMSL and the University of Missouri-Rolla.
USI sophomore goalkeeper
Meagan Homolla (Portage, Indiana) made eight saves in posting her first shutout of the year. The shutout was the second straight for USI as a team.
The Eagles' win snapped a five-game losing streak to the Riverwomen. The loss also was the first of the year for UMSL in the GLVC, who entered the match on top of the league standing.
USI resumes GLVC action on the road next weekend when it travels to Quincy University on September 23 and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on September 25.
