EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana women's soccer sophomore forward
Julie Collins (Merrillville, Indiana) scored less than four minutes into the contest to set the tone for a 6-0 victory over the University of Missouri-Rolla Friday evening at Strassweg Field.
The Screaming Eagles (2-4-0, 1-2-0 GLVC) snapped a four-match losing streak with the victory. The six goals were the most by an Eagle squad since they defeated Oakland City University, 13-2, in 2001.
Collins, who scored the first goal off a pass from junior back
Rebecca Cripe (Argos, Indiana), assisted on a goal by sophomore midfielder
Meghann Cage (Evansville, Indiana) five minutes later as the Eagles grabbed a 2-0 advantage.
After going into the intermission with the two-goal lead, Collins added the Eagles third goal of the contest, and her third of the 2005 season, in the 52nd minute of the match.
Sophomore forward
Katie Grossman (Evansville, Indiana) added a goal in the 61st minute, while junior midfielder
Megan Williams (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) and sophomore midfielder
Katie Barisano (Newburgh, Indiana) capped the Eagles route with goals in the 81st minute and 83rd minute, respectively.
Freshman forward
Brittany Carnegie (British Columbia, Canada) assisted on the Grossman goal, while senior forward
Brooklyn Gant (Evansville, Indiana) assisted on the Barisano goal. Williams' goal was unassisted.
Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper
Meagan Homalla (Portage, Indiana) and junior goalkeeper
Casey Hrvatin (Evansville, Indiana) combined for USI's first shutout of the season. Homalla picked up the victory, improving to 2-4 on the season, as she recorded five saves in 63 minutes of work.
UMR (2-4-0, 0-3-0 GLVC) got two saves from junior goalie Brittany Parker. Parker (0-4) was charged with the loss after giving up four goals in 77 minutes between the posts.
USI hosts the University of Missouri-St. Louis, which is 6-1-0, 3-0-0 in the GLVC, after a 7-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College this afternoon. Kick-off is slated for noon at Strassweg Field.
