EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team began its final homestand of the season with a split with Northern Kentucky University Saturday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. NKU took game one, 5-0, while USI won a thriller in the nightcap, 3-2, in 10 innings.

The Screaming Eagles took the 3-2 nightcap victory in the 10th inning when senior centerfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) scored on a sacrifice squeeze play by senior shortstop Corey Goers (LaPorte, Indiana) with one out.

Wetzel finished the second game by going four-for-five with a run scored and one RBI.

Sophomore right-hander Adam Summers (Dyer, Indiana) posted his team-leading seventh victory of the year in game two, going all 10 innings. Summers (7-2) scattered 10 hits and allowed two runs while striking out five NKU hitters.

In game one, the Norse scored three in the second inning and two in the fourth inning to cruise to a 5-0 victory. USI senior right-hander Jae Fadde (West Lafayette, Indiana) went all seven innings for the Eagles in the loss, allowing all five runs on nine hits and struck out seven. Fadde (3-6) finishes the year with a team-high 57 strike outs.

NKU right-hander Derrick Moeves did not allow USI to string any of its five hits together in the game to earn the victory.

The game one loss also crushed USI's hopes for a berth in the GLVC Tournament next week. The Screaming Eagles needed to win all four games this weekend to have a shot at the sixth and final slot in the tournament.

USI and NKU will complete the four-game series Sunday with a noon doubleheader. It is Senior Day for USI, which will honor its 10 seniors prior to the first pitch.
