Adam Summers (Dyer, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles to a doubleheader sweep of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Sunday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI won the opener 7-0 and took the nightcap, 6-2.
The Eagles have won three in a row and four of their last five in raising their record to 13-15 overall and 5-7 in the GLVC. SIUE falls to 12-9 overall and 7-7 GLVC.
Fadde (2-2) recorded the team's first shutout of the year and his second complete game of the year in earning the victory. He threw seven innings, allowing two hits and two walks, and struck out four batters.
The senior pitched out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the first inning and stranded a pair of runners in the first, second, and fifth innings.
Offensively, USI scored all seven runs in the bottom of the fifth with just one base hit. Four Cougar hurlers gave up five walks and hit three batters in the inning.
Summers (5-1) picked up his team-best fifth win and third complete game of the year in the nightcap. He scattered seven hits and a walk, while and allowing two earned runs over the nine innings. The sophomore also struck out three Cougar hitters.
At the plate in game two, USI scored all of the runs it would need in the first inning. Sophomore leftfielderÂ
Hunter Slade (Newburgh, Indiana) capped off the four-run first with a three-run triple to rightfield.
USI would respond to SIUE tallies in the third and the fifth with runs in the bottom of the third and the sixth for the 6-2 final.
The Eagles resume GLVC action at home Wednesday when they host the University of Missouri-St. Louis at the USI Baseball Field. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
