OWENSBORO, Ky.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team held Kentucky Wesleyan College to just five hits in two games as the Screaming Eagles swept the Panthers, 8-0 and 3-0, Sunday afternoon.
In game one, USI (25-16, 8-6 GLVC) plated three runs in the top of the first inning to take a commanding advantage. Senior centerfielder
Sunny Oelling (Valparaiso, Indiana), who was 3-for-5 in game one with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored, started the game off with a bunt-single and came around to score when senior designated player
Kristy Groves (Dale, Indiana) singled up the middle three batters later.
The Eagles tacked on another run in the fifth inning and four in the seventh to provide junior hurler
Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) more than enough support to pick up her 10th win of the season. McNaughton (10-6), who allowed just one hit and three base runners, did not allow a runner reach second base.
Senior rightfielder
Nickole Henson (Princeton, Indiana) was hit by a pitch in the first inning of game two and came around to score the contest's first run on a single by McNaughton. USI scored two runs in the first and another in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Junior
Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) scattered four hits throughout seven innings to pick up the complete-game shutout in the second contest. Grover improves to 13-8 on the season with the victory.
USI will return to action Wednesday when it hosts Bellarmine University in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. at the USI Softball Field. The Eagles host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis University next weekend to close their regular-season schedule.
