EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team will face the top-ranked team in the country Saturday when it travels to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to take on Northern Kentucky University. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. (CT).
The Screaming Eagles (23-16, 6-6 GLVC) will try to bounce back from a tough homestand that saw them go 4-6. USI has lost eight of its last 13 games after setting the school-record with 18 consecutive wins.
NKU (40-0, 12-0 GLVC) will be going for the NCAA II record for consecutive wins in game one against the Eagles. The Norse defeated USI, 5-2, in a non-conference contest in Kennesaw, Georgia, earlier in the season.
The last time the Eagles faced the number one team in the country was March 2, 2001, when they fell, 3-2, to pre-season No. 1-ranked North Dakota State University.
USI will finish its regular-season road schedule Sunday when it travels to Owensboro, Kentucky, to take on Kentucky Wesleyan College. First-pitch has been moved to 1 p.m. The Eagles will finish their regular-season schedule with six straight home games, starting with a non-conference doubleheader with Bellarmine University Wednesday at 3 p.m.
