LOUISVILLE, Ky.
– The University of Southern Indiana baseball team began its 12-game road swing by losing a pair to Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, Wednesday afternoon. Bellarmine won the opener, 10-5, and the nightcap 13-8.

USI falls to 20-22 overall and 12-14 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine goes to 22-19 overall, 17-9 GLVC. The Knights have won 17 of the last 20 in the GLVC since starting league play 0-6.

A pair of bad inning haunted USI hurlers in game one. Senior right-hander Jae Fadde (West Lafayette, Indiana) allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings of work, five of the runs coming in the third inning. Freshman right-hander Jeremy Kehrt (Plainfield, Indiana) followed Fadde to the mound in the third inning and got through the fourth before allowing four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

At the plate, junior catcher Chris Turner (West Lafayette, Indiana) led the way by driving in two of USI's five runs. Senior rightfielder Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) was the only USI player with a pair of hits in game one.

In the nightcap, the Knights erased a 5-1USI lead with eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to propel them to a 13-8 victory. Bellarmine would add two tallies in the sixth and the eighth in response to a three-run rally by USI in the seventh to preserve the victory.

USI senior centerfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) led USI in the nightcap by going three-for-six with a runs scored. Keener and freshman third baseman Sam Shahine (West Lafayette, Indiana) scored three runs each in the loss.

The Eagles depart Friday afternoon for a weekend series at Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois. The first pitch Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for noon.
