O'FALLON, Mo.
– The University of Southern Indiana baseball team earned a split in the road half of the four-game series with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday afternoon at TR Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, Missouri. SIUE won the opener 9-2, but USI bounced back to take the nightcap, 9-6, in 10 innings.

The Screaming Eagles finish the day 11-15 overall and 3-7 in the GLVC, while the Cougars go to 12-7 overall, 7-5 GLVC. The two teams will complete the four-game series Sunday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

USI picked up 9-6 10-inning victory by scoring three times in the top of the tenth. The game winning run scored when senior second baseman Bryan Davis (West Chester, Ohio) scored on a passed ball with the bases load and no outs. Davis had reached base on catcher's interference and advanced to third on a walk to senior centerfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) and a bunt single by senior rightfielder Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) with the tying tallies.

The dramatic 10th was set up by the Eagles, who scored twice in the top of the eighth to tie the game 6-6. Keener singled in freshman pinch runner Justin Wolfe (Brookville, Indiana) and senior pinch runner Jared Tekulve (Madison, Indiana).

USI junior lefthander Nathan Arnold (Evansville, Indiana) picked up his first victory of the year by pitching a pair of scoreless innings in relief. Arnold (1-0, 3 saves) allowed just two hits and struck out two of the eight batters he faced for the victory. Over his last five relief appearances, Arnold has not allowed a run, given up three hits, and picked up three saves and one victory in 3 2/3 innings of work.

In the game one loss, the Eagles spotted SIUE eight runs in the first three innings in falling 9-2. Senior right-hander Andy Rumpler (Hamilton, Ohio) took the loss for the Eagles, going four innings and fell to 0-3.

Keener finished the afternoon by going three-for-seven with a run scored and three RBIs, while senior shortstop Corey Goers (LaPorte, Indiana) was three-for-six with run scored.
