HARROGATE, Tenn.—The University of Southern Indiana baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 9-5 victory over Lincoln Memorial University in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Hennon Field. The Screaming Eagles fell in the night cap, 10-6.

USI (4-7) used a two-run homer by senior centerfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) in the top of the first inning to set the tone for its victory in game one. Wetzel went 3-for-4 in the first game with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Sophomore outfielder Hunter Slade (Newburgh, Indiana), who was 2-for-3 in the first game with two double and two RBIs, hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to give the Eagles a 3-1 advantage.

The Eagles tacked on three runs in the fifth inning and another three runs in the seventh inning to pull out the victory. Senior utility player Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

Sophomore Adam Vetter (Crown Point, Indiana) picked up the victory despite giving up three runs off four hits in four-plus innings of action. Vetter (1-1) struggled with his control, hitting three batters and walking two more.

Senior Jae Fadde (West Lafayette, Indiana) came in during the fifth inning and threw three strong innings to earn his first save of the season. Fadde recorded one strikeout and got USI out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the bottom of the fifth inning to hold the Eagles' lead.

In game two, the Eagles struggled from the start, giving up six runs in the first two innings of the game. Freshman Jeremy Kehrt (Plainfield, Indiana) was rocked for three runs off three hits and a pair of walks in just one inning of work as he was charged with his second loss in as many decisions.

Senior Matt Goans (Evansville, Indiana) came in to pitch the second inning, but did not fare much better as he gave up three runs off five hits.

Offensively, the Eagles were led by Wetzel, who went 3-for-4 with a run scored.

USI will turn its attention to Tuesday's "Battle at the Braun II," which features the Eagles and their cross-town rival, the University of Evansville. USI lost last season's game, 18-8. The first pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Braun Stadium on the UE campus.
