Eagles unable to dig out of early deficit

Fall to Indianapolis for second time

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team was unable to dig its way out of an early deficit Saturday afternoon as it fell to the University of Indianapolis, 76-50, at Nicoson Hall.

USI (12-9, 5-9 GLVC) fell behind by 11 early in the first half as the Greyhounds connected on four straight three-pointers.

Senior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) kept the Screaming Eagles within striking range in the first half as she scored 16 of her team-high 18 points in the opening period. Truitt was 3-of-4 from long range in the first half as the Eagles went into the locker room trailing 37-28.

The Eagles got to within seven points four minutes into the second half, but the Greyhounds used an 18-0 run that lasted more than six minutes to put the game out of reach. USI shot just 24 percent (6-25) in the second half and was 0-for-5 from long range as Indianapolis pushed its lead to as many as 30 points.

Junior forward Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) chipped in 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while senior forward/center Andrea Engleking (Charlottesville, Indiana) finished with 10 points. Engleking tied a school-record by going 10-of-10 from the free throw line.

Indianapolis (16-5, 9-5 GLVC) had two players, Erin Moran and Amy Wisser, finish with 20 points. The Greyhounds shot 47.9 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from behind the arc, and out-rebounded the Eagles 36-26.

USI will return to action Thursday at 5:15 p.m. to take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at the Physical Activities Center. The Eagles finish their 2004-05 home schedule Saturday by hosting Lewis University for Homecoming/Senior Day.
