INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team was unable to dig its way out of an early deficit Saturday afternoon as it fell to the University of Indianapolis, 76-50, at Nicoson Hall.
USI (12-9, 5-9 GLVC) fell behind by 11 early in the first half as the Greyhounds connected on four straight three-pointers.
Senior guard
Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) kept the Screaming Eagles within striking range in the first half as she scored 16 of her team-high 18 points in the opening period. Truitt was 3-of-4 from long range in the first half as the Eagles went into the locker room trailing 37-28.
The Eagles got to within seven points four minutes into the second half, but the Greyhounds used an 18-0 run that lasted more than six minutes to put the game out of reach. USI shot just 24 percent (6-25) in the second half and was 0-for-5 from long range as Indianapolis pushed its lead to as many as 30 points.
Junior forward
Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) chipped in 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while senior forward/center
Andrea Engleking (Charlottesville, Indiana) finished with 10 points. Engleking tied a school-record by going 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
Indianapolis (16-5, 9-5 GLVC) had two players, Erin Moran and Amy Wisser, finish with 20 points. The Greyhounds shot 47.9 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from behind the arc, and out-rebounded the Eagles 36-26.
USI will return to action Thursday at 5:15 p.m. to take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at the Physical Activities Center. The Eagles finish their 2004-05 home schedule Saturday by hosting Lewis University for Homecoming/Senior Day.
