EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team shot just 36.0 percent in the second half as it fell to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 72-64, Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center.

USI (12-10, 5-10 GLVC) shot 60.0 percent in the first half and committed just five turnovers as it jumped out to a 35-32 halftime advantage. Junior forward Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Indiana) scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the opening period as the Screaming Eagles reached 35 points in a half for just the third time in the last nine games.

The Eagles, however, struggled to open the second half as they scored just four points in the first 10 minutes. UWP opened the closing period with a 16-4 run to take a nine point lead.

USI fell behind by as many as 11 points later in the half and could not get any closer than five points as it lost for the first time this season when leading at the intermission.

Senior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) scored all nine of her points in the second half and senior forward/center Andrea Engleking (Charlottesville, Indiana) scored eight of her 12 points in the closing period to get the Eagles within striking range late in the contest.

UWP (17-9, 11-5 GLVC), however, countered every surge the Eagles made as it won at the PAC for the first time in 10 tries. Junior guard Carrie Schieve led the Rangers with 17 points, while senior center Sammy Kromm and senior forward Carrie Weir chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively. Senior forward Jen Braier had a game-high 15 rebounds.

USI will finish its 2004-05 home schedule Saturday when it hosts Lewis University at 1 p.m. Saturday's contest is Homecoming/Senior Day for the Eagles and USI will honor its four seniors—Truitt, Engleking, Megan Nelson (Clarendon Hills, Illinois), and Kennitra Johnson (New Albany, Indiana)—as well as its senior manager, Brianna Wright, prior to the game.
