USI falls in overtime, 95-89

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team lost a hard-fought overtime game to Bellarmine University, 95-89, Saturday evening in Louisville, Kentucky. USI finishes the regular season 14-13 overall and 7-13 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine raises its record to 20-7 overall, 14-6 GLVC.

Despite the loss, the Screaming Eagles will be the number seven seed in the GLVC Tournament and play second-seeded Lewis University March 4 at 6 p.m. in Roberts Stadium.

The Eagles and the Knights played dead even basketball with both team tying a half with a three-point field goal in the final second. USI's senior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) hit a three-point shot with one second remaining in the first half to send the game into intermission tied, 37-37, while Bellarmine freshman guard Angela Smith sent the game into overtime, 80-80, with a long-range bomb with one second to play.

In overtime, USI jumped out to an 84-80 lead on a lay-up by junior forward Ashley Green (Otterbein, Indiana) and a jumper by junior guard Tiara Brown (Normal, Illinois). Bellarmine fired back with seven straight points to take control for good at 87-84. USI would get back to within one point at 87-86 with 1:41 left and 91-89 with 29 second remaining.

USI senior forward Andrea Engleking (Charlottesville, Indiana) led the Eagles with 24 points, while junior forward Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) dropped in 21 points. Brandon deposited a season-high three three-point field goals after scoring just two all season before tonight's action. Truitt rounded out the double-figure scorers with 15 points.

The teams were tied in the rebounding column with 40 each. Green and Truitt led the Eagles with eight and seven rebounds, respectively.
