EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team was out flown by the Flyers of Lewis University, 71-57, at the Physicals Activities Center Saturday afternoon. USI falls to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC, while Lewis goes to 5-3, 3-1 GLVC.
The loss broke USI's five-game winning streak at the PAC.
The Flyers soared out to a 10-point lead midway through the first half, 21-11, with 9:55 to play before halftime. USI made a 10-3 run to cut the lead to three, 24-21, with the clock reading 6:14.
Lewis out-paced USI in the final six minutes before intermission, 8-5, and led 32-27 at halftime.
It was all Flyers in the second half. Lewis extended its lead to 20 points in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza on a 24-6 run to make the score 56-36. USI would cut the Lewis lead to 10 points, 67-57, with 1:08 to play, but would score again before the buzzer would sound.
USI sophomore
Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) led the Eagles on the scoreboard with 18 points. She was followed by freshman guard
Keisha Collins (South Holland, Illinois) with 11 points. Senior forward
Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) was USI's top player in the paint with eight rebounds.
The next action for the Eagles is December 18 when USI hosts Wayne State University for a 2 p.m. contest at the PAC.
