EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team forced 18 first-half turnovers and built a 26-point halftime advantage as the Screaming Eagles defeated Wayne State University, 82-66, Sunday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.

USI (7-5), which had a 31-point lead early in the second half, got 15 points from sophomore forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) and another 15 from freshman point guard Keisha Collins (South Holland, Illinois) as it won for the seventh time in nine games.

Wayne State (3-6), which jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage, cut USI's lead to 13 points with less than four minutes to play in the game. However, Collins converted eight of 10 free throws in the final four minutes to seal the victory for the Eagles.

Collins, who also dished out a game-high five assists, scored all 10 of her second-half points from the free throw line and was 13-of-16 for the game from the charity stripe.

Baines, who had a team-high seven rebounds, paced the Eagles with 13 points in the first half, while senior guard/forward Ashley Green (Otterbein, Indiana) scored seven of her season-best 12 points in the opening period. USI shot 44.1 percent in the first half and held the Warriors to 22.6 percent shooting as it went into the intermission with a commanding 48-22 halftime lead.

USI opened the second half with five straight points, but Wayne State held strong and turned the tables on the Eagles in the final period. The Warriors forced USI into 19 second-half turnovers and held USI to just 23.8 percent shooting. They also shot 41.5 percent in the second half, but could not overcome USI's advantage from the charity stripe.

The Eagles shot 79.2 percent as a team from the free throw line, making 38 of 48 attempts. The Warriors shot just 53.1 percent (17-32) from the free throw line.

Senior guard Shatona Clark led the Warriors with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Wayne State had a 53-42 advantage on the glass, but only outscored the Eagles by two in the paint.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they host Purdue University-Calumet at the PAC.
