ROLLA, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball teams exploded offensively in the second half to defeat the University of Missouri-Rolla, 70-55, Thursday evening in Rolla, Missouri. USI remains perfect at 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the GLVC, while UMR falls to 2-4, 0-1 GLVC.
After a poor-shooting first half, the Screaming Eagles used a 12-0 run to begin the second stanza and outscored the Miners 25-8 in the first five minutes after halftime to take control of the contest. The Eagles had trailed by five points at halftime, 28-23, after shooting 29 percent in the first half (9-31).
The Eagles would extend their second half lead to as many as 17 points, 70-53, shortly before the end of the game.
USI junior guardÂ
Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana) scored a season-high 21 points to lead the way. Hall scored 18 points and hit five of his six three-point field goals in the second half comeback. Junior forwardÂ
Keith Christmas (Gary, Indiana) was the only other Eagle player to reach double figures with 10 points.
The Eagles finish the first conference road trip of the season on December 3 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. UMSL fell to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the GLVC after losing its conference opener to Kentucky Wesleyan College at home, 69-65.
