EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball teams had three players record a double-double in its 94-68 victory over Central State University Saturday evening in the USI Invitational at the Physical Activities Center. USI raised its record to a perfect 6-0 overall, while Central State dropped below .500 at 2-3.
USI senior forwardÂ
Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) recorded his fourth double-double in six games with a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard/forwardÂ
Marty Wise (New Orleans, Louisiana) followed Thompson in the scoring column with a season-best 16 points and tied for the team lead with 12 boards.
USI junior forward/centerÂ
Keith Christmas (Gary, Indiana) rounded out the double-doubles with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
In addition to the three double-doubles, junior guardÂ
Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana) dropped in 14 points and senior guardÂ
David Bryant (Louisville, Kentucky) added 13 points in the win.
The Screaming Eagles took control of the game with a 22-4 run midway through the first half and led at the intermission 53-32. USI shot nearly 80 percent during the run and was 66.7 percent from the field for the half (22-33).
In the second half, the Eagles would increase the margin to as many as 29 points in the final seconds, 94-65, before settling for a 94-68 victory.
In the first game, Bellarmine finished the tournament 2-0 with a 101-80 victory over Glenville State College.
USI opens the GLVC schedule next week on the road when it travels to Rolla, Missouri, for the first league game against the University of Missouri-Rolla on December 1. The Eagles finish the first conference road trip of the season on December 3 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
