Thiesenhusen's 22 lifts Eagles past Timberwolves

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana junior guard Katie Theisenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help the Screaming Eagles to a 66-55 victory over regional foe Northwood University Sunday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.

Theisenhusen scored 15 points in the first half alone and helped the Eagles turn a four-point deficit into a one-point halftime lead by finishing on a three-point play with 13 seconds to play in the opening period.

USI (2-3) finished the first half with a 5-0 run to go into the intermission with a 33-32 advantage. The Eagles opened the second half with a 7-0 run and pushed the lead to as many as 12 later in the contest.

Northwood (1-1) rallied, behind the play of junior guard Anna Trim and junior center Brittany Stedman, to cut the Eagle lead to four points with less than four minutes to play in the contest. Trim finished with 18 points, while Stedman chipped in 16 points.

Theisenhusen, however, hit a running lay up to put the Eagles up by six with three minutes to play and the Eagles never looked back. She also dished out one of her four assists on USI's next bucket, a lay up by junior forward/center Sarah Buldtman (Metropolis, Illinois) that gave the Eagles a comfortable 62-54 lead with a minute to play.

Freshman point guard Keisha Collins (South Holland, Illinois) hit four free throws in the final minute as the Eagles won for the second consecutive time. Collins finished the contest with eight points and four assists.

Sophomore forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) added 15 points before fouling out with two minutes left on the clock, while freshman forward/center Jessica Grimaldo (Carmi, Illinois) added 11 points—all of which came in the second half—and eight rebounds.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday when they host Central State University at 5:15 p.m. at the PAC. The Lady Marauders are 2-1 after defeating Stillman College, 76-54, on Saturday.
