EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 19th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team outlasted Northern Kentucky University to win in overtime, 87-82, at the Physical Activities Center Saturday afternoon. USI raises its record to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the GLVC, while NKU falls to 6-7 overall, 3-5 GLVC.

Carl Richburg (Mason, Ohio) gave the Eagles the lead for good, 83-81, with a lay-up with 1:00 to play in overtime. The Eagles sealed the victory on a pair of free throws by senior forwardÂ
Chris Thompson (Starke, Ohio) with 22 seconds to play and senior centerÂ
Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) with 11 seconds left in overtime.
The game was back-and-forth throughout with 17 ties and 24 lead changes. USI won the battle of the first half, taking a 38-37 lead into the locker room on a jumper by senior centerÂ
Reque Newsome (St. Petersburg, Florida), who finished the game with 10 points and six rebounds. The Norse won the second half, 36-35, to send the game into overtime tied 73-73.
The USI scoring attack was led Holbrook with a game-high 28 points. The 28 points was a season-best, while his 12 rebounds was a career-high. Holbrook was followed by Richburg, who posted a season-best 15 points and tied a season-high with seven assists.
Thompson recorded his third-straight double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. His four double-doubles this season are tops on the team.
The USI men's basketball team concludes the four-game homestand Monday by hosting the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles resume GLVC action on January 13 at Saint Joseph's College to begin a two-game road trip.
