USI and Rockhurst battle to double overtime tie

Southern Indiana (1-2-1): 0 Rockhurst (0-1-2): 0 (2 ot)

Quincy, IL – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team battled Rockhurst University to a 0-0 double-overtime tie in the second day of the Soccer Bowl XII hosted by Quincy University. USI's record goes to 1-2-1 overall, while Rockhurst is 0-1-2 this fall.

This is the second year in a row that USI and Rockhurst have battled to a double-overtime tie. Last season at Strassweg Field, the Screaming Eagles and the Hawks dueled to 1-1 after 110 minutes.

USI was led by junior goalkeeper Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana), who picked up his first shutout of the year. Penick made eight saves, include the stop of a penalty kick midway through the second half.

The shutout was the 11th of Penick's career. He needs just three more to move into third place all-time a USI. Jim Dionne is currently third all-time at USI with 13 shutouts between 1991 and 1992.

USI will conclude its four-game road trip next week when it travels to Ashland University on September 10 and Gannon University on September 12. The Eagles return to the friendly confines of the Strassweg Field on September 17 to open the GLVC schedule by hosting Quincy University.
