Eagles fall to No. 8 Truman State
ALLENDALE, Mich.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team fell to No. 8 Truman State University in four games (30-21, 30-32, 30-21, 30-21) Friday in its second match of the Radisson Riverfront Classic. It marks the first time this season that the Screaming Eagles have lost.
USI (4-1) was held to a .191 attacking percentage, while the Bulldogs (6-0) hit .321 in the match.
Junior middle blocker
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) had 12 kills to lead the Eagles, while senior middle blocker
Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) and sophomore outside hitter
Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) each had 10 kills in the loss.
Freshman setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) had 46 assists and 13 of USI's 79 digs.
The Eagles will take on Lake Superior State University and the University of North Dakota Saturday at 10 a.m. and noon, respectively.
USI volleyball bests South Dakota in three
ALLENDALE, Mich.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team used a dominating first game to defeat the University of South Dakota 30-21, 30-27, 30-28 Friday in the first match of the Radisson Riverfront Classic.
Junior middle blocker
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) belted out 17 kills and a .696 attacking percentage, while senior middle blocker
Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) tallied 11 kills to lead the Screaming Eagles to their second straight 4-0 start.
Senior right side hitter
Natalie Atzinger (Louisville, Kentucky) had nine kills in the victory.
As a team, the Eagles hit .354 and held the Coyotes to a .202 attacking percentage. Freshman setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) had a match-high 40 assists and 11 digs to help both the offensive and defensive fronts for the Eagles. Ellerbusch led USI with 12 digs.
The Eagles were tied 28-28 in the third game, but pushed for two straight points to close the match. They jumped out to an eight-point lead midway through the third game to cruise to the first-game victory.
