EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team swept Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 33-31, 30-23, 30-16 Wednesday evening at the Vadalabene Center to improve to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the GLVC.
Junior middle blocker
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) had four blocks and a kill to help the Screaming Eagles to a pivotal win in the first set. Ellerbusch finished the match with four solo blocks and three block assists to go along with six kills and 13 digs.
Senior middle blocker
Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) had a match-high 11 kills and sophomore outside hitter/libero
Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) had a match-high tying 18 digs as the Eagles won for the fifth consecutive time.
USI held the Cougars (13-5, 4-1 GLVC) to a .037 attacking percentage and took advantage of 14 service errors to force at least a two-game tie atop the GLVC standings with the University of Indianapolis.
As a team, the Eagles recorded 65 digs, with senior right-side hitter
Natalie Atzinger (Louisville, Kentucky) chipping in 13, to overcome an SIUE crowd of 538.
USI will return to action Friday when it hosts Bellarmine University in a 7 p.m. match at the Physical Activities Center. Saturday's match with the University of North Alabama has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts. A make-up date is to be announced.
