HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY– The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team won its fourth in a row, defeating Northern Kentucky University, 3-1, on the road Saturday afternoon in Highland Heights, Kentucky. USI's record goes to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the GLVC, while NKU goes to 8-6 overall, 1-2 in the GLVC.
USI has won four straight contests since losing three in a row earlier this month and has matched its longest winning streak of the year.
The Screaming Eagles controlled the match from the start, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on a 30-17 win in game one and a 30-21 victory in game two. The Norse responded with a 30-28 victory in game three before USI closed out the match with a 30-27 game four win.
USI's sophomore outside hitter
Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana) had a match-high 18 kills to lead the Eagles, followed by junior middle blocker
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) with 17 kills. Freshman setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) kept the USI attack on track with a match-high 70 assists.
Defensively the Eagles were at the top of their game, holding the Norse to a 0.29 hitting percentage in the first two games of the match.
The Eagles resume action next Friday when they begin a two match homestand. USI hosts Bellarmine University for a GLVC match on October 1 and the defending NCAA Division II National Champion University of North Alabama on October 2.
