USI volleyball loses hold over Hillsdale

Falls despite record-setting performance

WHEELING, W.V.—After two games, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team looked as if it was in cruise-control. That's before its opponent, Hillsdale College, turned a six-point deficit into a two-point game-three victory.

The Screaming Eagles (6-2) won the first two games 30-23, 30-24, and had a 24-18 lead in the third game.

However, the Chargers (5-2) surged back to win the third game, 31-29, and swing momentum into their favor.

USI saw its attacking percentage in the first two-games (.354) slip to .268 by the end of the match as Hillsdale won game four 30-21 and game five 15-12.

Freshman setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) had a school-record 76 assists to go with 20 digs, while senior right-side hitter Natalie Atzinger (Louisville, Kentucky) rang up 20 kills to lead the Eagle attack. Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) recorded 14 kills to go with a match and career-high 27 digs.

The Eagles will play No. 23 Northwood University and No. 12 Grand Valley State University Saturday to conclude the Great Lakes Region Crossover. Match times are 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. (CDT), respectively.
