The University of Southern Indiana baseball team finished Wednesday's action by taking three of four from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 2004. The Eagles, who picked up two wins in Owensboro on Wednesday, raised their record to 14-23 overall and 10-14 in the GLVC.

In the continued game from last Wednesday, senior first baseman Toby Pritchard (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) singled through the left side to score junior catcher/outfielder Trevor Kelly (Marshall, Michigan) in the bottom of the 10th for a 4-3 victory. Sophomore right-hander Matt Goans (Evansville, Indiana) picked up his first victory of the year by pitching a scoreless top of the 10th. Goans is 1-2 this year.

The first game of the regularly scheduled doubleheader saw the Panther scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-2 victory. After KWC had scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 1-0 lead, junior rightfielder Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Eagles a short-lived 2-1 lead.

Sophomore right-hander Mike Watson (Madison, Indiana) suffered his first loss for the Eagles, going 5.1 innings and allowing three unearned runs and walking four. Watson, who fe1l to 3-1, also struck out five batters.

USI rebounded in game two to win 9-5. The Eagles drew first blood on junior designated hitter Andy Rock's (West Chester, Ohio) first home run of the year before the Panthers responded with three runs of their own to take a 3-1 lead and chase USI starter Adam Vetter (Crown Point, Indiana).

Junior right-hander Andy Rumpler (Hamilton, Ohio) came in to shut the Panthers down in his first relief appearance of the year and raised his record to 4-2. Rumpler went 6.2 innings and allowed nine hits, two runs (one earned) and one walk, while striking out two.

In addition to Rock's home run, junior centerfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) ignited a USI four run fourth with his second home run of the year to put the Eagles in the lead for good. USI would go on to score two more in the seventh and the ninth to seal the victory.

Eagles' freshman right-hander Aaron Clark (Madisonville, Kentucky) relieved Rumpler with two outs in the ninth to pick-up his first save of the year.

USI will play a non-conference split series with Oakland City University Friday and Saturday, April 9-10. The Eagles will host the Mighty Oaks for a single game at the USI Baseball Field Friday at 2 p.m., while OCU will host USI for at doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
