Indianapolis, IN The University of Southern Indiana baseball team reached the .500 mark for the first time this spring in the GLVC competition with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Indianapolis, 7-5 and 12-5, Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis. USI raises its record to 21-25 overall and 15-15 in the GLVC, while Indianapolis falls to 17-28, 12-20 in the GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles have won six of their last seven GLVC games and are 15-10 in the league since starting 2004 with a 0-5 record.
One of the biggest reasons for the resurgence of the Eagles is junior right-handerÂ
Andy Rumpler (Hamilton, Ohio). Rumpler, who is 6-2 after his game one victory, has won his last five decisions and is 5-1 in the GLVC. He went all seven innings in game one, allowing eight hits and five runs (three earned), while striking out six.
In game two, junior right-handerÂ
Jae Fadde (West Lafayette, Indiana) picked up his second victory in a row and raised his record to 2-3 in 2004. Fadde went seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out six.
Offensively, the Eagles were led by senior catcherÂ
Mike Kottmeyer (Boulder, Illinois). Kottmeyer was a combined five-for-six in the doubleheader with five RBIs, three runs scored, a double, and a triple. He was two-for-two with a pair of runs scored and RBIs in game one, followed that with a three-for-four performance in game two with a run scored and three RBIs.
Over the last week when the Eagles went 5-1, Kottmeyer hit .565 with 10 RBIs, seven runs scored, three doubles, a triple, and a .783 slugging percentage.
USI finish their latest string of road dates Wednesday, April 21, with a doubleheader at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Eagles return to the friendly confines of the USI Baseball Field next weekend when they host Saint Joseph's College for a four-game series Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25. Sunday's doubleheader will be Senior Day for USI.
