USI softball drops two

KENOSHA, Wis.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team gave up 23 hits and 14 runs Saturday as it lost both games of a doubleheader to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at the Case Complex.

USI (20-19, 8-4 GLVC) surrendered 16 hits in the first game as it gave up four runs in the first inning and four runs in the sixth inning en route to an 11-3 loss. The Screaming Eagles recorded six hits, including a solo homerun and an RBI single by senior pitcher/third baseman Shannon Emmons (Boonville, Indiana).

Senior second baseman Brooke Biggs (Osceola, Indiana) went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in the loosing effort.

Sophomore hurler Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) was pinned with the loss after giving up six runs off six hits, including a solo homerun and a three-run blast in the first inning. Grover falls to 9-10 with the set back.

In game two, the Eagles gave up a run in the second inning and two in the third inning as they fell 3-1. Senior catcher/utility player Kristen Houseworth (Martinsville, Indiana) hit a solo homerun in the sixth inning to provide USI's offense.

The Eagles loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but could not get any closer as they lost for the fourth straight game.

Emmons (9-7) was charged with the loss after giving up all three runs off seven hits.

USI travels to Romeoville, Illinois, Sunday to take on Lewis University in a noon doubleheader.
