Evansville, Ind. --Â The University of Southern Indiana baseball team scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan College, 4-3, in the opening game of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. The Screaming Eagles raised their record to 10-20 overall and 6-11 in the GLVC, while KWC falls to 18-8 overall, 10-5 GLVC.
After being held to three hits in the first five innings, USI second basemanÂ
Bryan Davis (West Chester, Ohio) singled to left and junior catcherÂ
Trevor Kelly (Marshall, Indiana) followed with a single up the middle to begin the comeback. Junior centerfielderÂ
Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) brought USI to within a run by tripling home both runners and scored to tie the game on a single by junior rightfielderÂ
Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana).
Advancing to second on a ground out by junior designated hitterÂ
Andy Rock (West Chester, Ohio), Keener scored on a single to left center by senior first baseman
Toby Pritchard (Ft. Wayne, Indiana).

Mike Watson (Madison, Indiana) got his third win for USI, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing just seven hits and three runs (two earned). Watson (3-0) also struck out three. Sophomore right-handerÂ
Matt Goans (Evansville, Indiana) picked up his third save of the year by pitching 2/3 of an inning.
The second game of the doubleheader was called due to darkness in the top of the 10th inning with the teams tied 3-3. The game will resume next Wednesday, April 7, at Kentucky Wesleyan prior to the regularly scheduled doubleheader. The Panthers will be at-bat in the top of the 10th when the game resumes.
In the second game, the Panthers led twice with a run in the fourth and a run in the seventh. USI came back to tie the game 1-1 and 2-2 with tallies in the six and seventh. The Eagles took a brief lead in the bottom of the eighth, 3-2, only to see the Panthers tie game in the top of the ninth.
Before the Eagles resume the second game of the doubleheader next week, USI will host a four-game series with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday and Sunday, April 3-4. Saturday's doubleheader at USI and Sunday's twin-bill at SIUE will be 1 p.m. first pitches.
