KENOSHA, Wis.—The University of Southern Indiana baseball team managed just one run Saturday as it dropped both games of a doubleheader to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at Oberbruner Field. The Screaming Eagles lost the first game 2-1 and the second game 1-0 to fall to 8-19 overall and 4-10 in the GLVC.

In game one, USI freshman hurler Adam Summers (Dyer, Indiana) hit the first batter he faced before giving up a single and walking the bases loaded with no outs. Summers allowed just five hits, but hit five batters in the first four innings.

UWP's first baseman Adam Brechtl flew out to USI junior centerfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) to drive in the first run of the game and give the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Wetzel led off the top of the sixth inning with a double down the rightfield line and came around to score the tying run when senior right fielder/pitcher Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) singled to leftfield in the next at-bat.

With the score tied at 1-1, Summers gave up a one-out double to UWP catcher Eric Krumsee and a two-out, RBI single to lead-off hitter Tim Baum. Baum, coincidently, scored the first run of the game after being hit by Summers.

The Eagles got a run into scoring position in the top of the seventh inning, but could not push the tying run across the plate. Summers (1-2) was pinned with the loss after giving up to both UWP runs.

In game two, the Eagles recorded 10 hits but left 10 runners on base as they were blanked 1-0. After fog delayed the game in the sixth inning, USI looked as if it might push the GLVC's top team to extra innings.

With darkness falling and a looming suspension of the game that would have forced the conclusion to be played Sunday morning, UWP put a two-out rally together in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull out the victory.

After freshman pitcher Aaron Clark (Madisonville, Kentucky) got the first two UWP batters out in the ninth inning, he ran into control problems. Clark (2-1) walked UWP right fielder Casey Garms before hitting back-to-back batters to load the bases. Clark walked Krumsee to give up the winning run and get stuck with his first loss of the season.

Clark came into the game in the eighth inning after junior pitcher Jae Fadde (West Lafayette, Indiana) pitched seven innings of two-hit baseball. Fadde allowed just three Rangers to reach base and just one runner to reach second base. He recorded 10 strike outs to just one walk.

The Eagles will resume the four-game series with the Rangers Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The first pitch for the doubleheader is slated for noon.
