EAST PEORIA, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning Friday evening as they lost, 2-0, to #14 Grand Valley State University at the EastSide Centre.
USI (12-12) was held to just four hits as it fell for the first time in five contests.
Sophomore hurler
Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) was charged with the loss, despite giving up just four hits. Grover (5-7), however, had a throwing error in the third inning that helped lead to one of the GVSU runs.
Offensively, the Screaming Eagles were led by junior centerfielder
Sunny Oelling (Valparaiso, Indiana). Oelling went 2-for-3 from the plate, while senior catcher/utility player
Kristen Houseworth (Martinsville, Indiana) and freshman catcher/designated player
Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) also recorded a hit for the Eagles.
USI will resume play at the Great Lakes Regional Showdown Saturday with games against Ashland University (10 a.m.), Wayne State University (4 p.m.), and Gannon University (8 p.m.). The Eagles will conclude the weekend's action Sunday with a game against the University of Findlay at 11 a.m.
