EAST PEORIA, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team was held scoreless for a second straight game as it lost 2-0 to Ashland University Saturday morning in the Great Lakes Regional Showdown at the EastSide Centre.
Ashland took advantage of a USI error in the top of the sixth inning to plate both of its runs. USI (12-13) was held to five hits as it lost its second straight game.
Sophomore pitcher
Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) was charged with the loss after giving up both runs, just one earned, off six hits. Grover (5-8) struck out two batters while walking three.
Senior pitcher/infielder
Shannon Emmons (Boonville, Indiana) went 2-for-3 with a double while senior first baseman
Monica Tepe (Granger, Indiana), junior centerfielder
Sunny Oelling (Valparaiso, Indiana), and freshman catcher/designated player
Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) all recorded singles.
The Screaming Eagles will take on Wayne State University at 4 p.m. and Gannon University at 8 p.m. later today. USI concludes its weekend with the University of Findlay Sunday at 11 a.m.
