The University of Southern Indiana baseball team stumbled in its GLVC opener, losing 11-5 to Quincy University in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI falls to 4-9 overall and 0-1 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 9-6 overall, 1-0 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles trailed 3-0 after the Hawk's half of the third inning before responding with two of their own in the bottom half and single tallies in the third and the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. The Hawk bounced back with eight unanswered, seven coming in the sixth, to win 11-5.

Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) fell to 0-2, losing his second straight start. He went five-plus innings, allowing eight runs, seven earned, and 10 hits. He was followed to the mound by sophomore left-handerÂ

Dustin Jourdan (Evansville, Indiana), and sophomore right-handerÂ
Pat Morgan (Columbus, Indiana).
At the plate, USI was junior second basemanÂ
Bryan Davis (West Chester, Ohio) with a two-for-two day with three runs scored. Senior first basemanÂ
Toby Pritchard (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) was one-for-three with a pair of RBIs.
The nightcap was suspended in the seventh inning with the score tied, 7-7, and will be completed prior to Sunday's (March 14) doubleheader. The game will resume at 10 a.m., followed by the regularly scheduled doubleheader at noon.
