Southern Indiana (4-8) 2 @ #12 Augusta State (13-3) 6
The University of Southern Indiana baseball team took 12th-ranked Augusta State University to the brink Wednesday afternoon, but a four-run Jaguar eighth inning spelled defeat for the Screaming Eagles, 6-2, in Augusta, Georgia. USI sees its record fall to 4-8 overall in 2004, while Augusta State goes to 14-3 on the young season.
Down 1-0, USI tied the score 1-1 in the fourth and took the lead, 2-1, in the seventh inning on an RBI single by junior catcher 
Trevor Kelly (Marshall, MI). The Jaguars tied the score in the bottom of the seventh, setting the stage for their four-run eight.
Eagles' sophomore right-hander 
Mike Watson (Madison, Indiana) started and went a strong six-plus innings for USI. He allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) before giving way to sophomore right-hander 
Matt Goans (Evansville, Indiana) in the seventh.
Goans took the loss for the Eagles and fall to 0-2 on the season. He went 1 2/3 innings, allowing one hit and two runs. He was followed to the mound by sophomore lefthander 
Nathan Arnold (Evansville, Indiana), who faced two batters, who scored on an RBI single allowed by freshman right-hander 
Adam Summers (Dyer, Indiana).
The Eagles were at the plate Kelly, who had two hits in three at-bats, and senior designated hitter 
Mike Kottmeyer (Boulder, Illinois), who was two-for-three with a home run.
The Eagles return to the friendly confines of the USI Baseball Field Saturday and Sunday, March 13-14, to open the GLVC 40-game regular season schedule with Quincy University. The first pitch is scheduled for noon on both Saturday and Sunday.
