Eagles break century mark in win

Evansville, IN—The #17-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team went over the century mark for the third time in 2003-04 in a 113-69 victory over Bellarmine University Saturday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 18-4 overall and 11-4 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine falls 7-15, 4-11 GLVC.

The 113-69 victory marks the 42nd straight game that USI has won when scoring 100 or more points.

The Screaming Eagles controlled the game from start to finish, allowing the Knights to score only five points in the first nine minutes of the game. The Eagles continued on the offensive, building a 30 points lead at halftime, 53-30.

In the second half, USI extended the lead to as many as 48 points, 104-56, with five minutes to play. For the game, the Eagles shot 62.7 percent (37-59) from the field and 64.7 percent (11-17) from long range.

Senior forward Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois) and senior center John Oden (St. Louis, Missouri) led seven USI players in double figures with 17 points each. Freshman forward Geoff Van Winkle (Ferdinand, Indiana) and senior guard Joe Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida) followed Oden and Harris with 12 points each, while junior guard/forward Aaron Austin (Chicago Height, Illinois) dropped in 11 points. Senior guard Mike Arnold (Indianapolis, Indiana) and junior center Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points each.

The Eagles conclude their three-game homestand when the University of Missouri-St. Louis comes to the PAC. The GLVC doubleheader begins with the women's game at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game at 3:15 p.m.
