KENNESAW, Ga.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team went 1-2 Saturday to conclude its opening weekend at the Owl Classic. The Screaming Eagles lost 10-0, in five innings, to #19 University of Nebraska-Omaha and 5-3, in eight innings, to #17 Georgia College and State University, while posting a 2-1 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne College.
Senior catcher
Kristen Houseworth (Martinsville, Indiana) recorded an RBI against LRC and an RBI against GC&SU to lead USI offensively. Houseworth saw her first action as a first baseman in those two games.
Freshman catcher
Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) and freshman infielder
Kerrie Burton (Kokomo, Indiana) also recorded their first collegiate RBIs for the Eagles.
Sophomore hurler
Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) was charged with her second loss of the season after giving up 10 runs against Nebraska-Omaha. Senior pitcher/infielder
Shannon Emmons (Boonville, Indiana) pushed her record to 1-2 on the season after picking up the win against LRC and being charged with the loss against GC&SU. Emmons surrendered one run off eight hits in her victory before giving up five runs, three earned, in her loss.
USI (1-4) will open its 2004 home schedule Friday, March 5, against Purdue University-North Central. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at the USI Softball Field.
