KENNESAW, Ga.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team lost a heart-breaker to #9 Kennesaw State University, 4-3, and was blanked by #8 Wayne State University, 6-0, Friday at the Owl Classic. USI's game against #19 University of Nebraska-Omaha was pushed back to Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Screaming Eagles (0-2) struck first in their game with KSU as senior pitcher/infielder Shannon Emmons (Boonville, Indiana) hit a shot over the centerfield wall to give USI a 1-0 advantage in the second inning. KSU answered with a run in the bottom half of the second inning.

With the scored tied at 1-1, senior second baseman Brooke Biggs (Osceola, Indiana) lined a single through the right side of the infield to push across two runs and give the Eagles a 3-1 advantage heading into the sixth inning.

KSU (11-0), however, scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep its undefeated season intact. Emmons (0-1), who came into relief in the bottom of the seventh, was charged with the loss against KSU after allowing the tying and winning runs to cross the plate.

Against Wayne State, USI trailed 1-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning. However, the Warriors scored two runs in the sixth and added three more in the top of the seventh to blow the game wide open.

Sophomore pitcher Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) was pinned with the loss after giving up six runs, five earned, off 13 hits and a pair of walks. Grover pitched well in the first game against KSU, giving up just two runs, one earned, off three hits.

In addition to their game against Nebraska-Omaha Saturday, the Eagles will play Lenoir-Rhyne College at 11 a.m. and #17 Georgia College & State University at 3 p.m. USI will open its home schedule Friday, March 5, against Purdue University-North Central. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at the USI Softball Field.
