Truitt’s career-high leads USI women’s basketball to victory

Eagles entering GLVC Tournament as fifth seed

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Junior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) scored a career-high 31 points to lead the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team to an 86-68 victory over the University of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.

Truitt connected on 12-of-23 shots, including 6-of-11 from behind the arc, as she broke the USI single-season record for three-pointers (78).

As a team, the Screaming Eagles (19-8, 12-8 GLVC) shot 53.1 percent from the field and outscored the Greyhounds 40-22 inside the paint. Senior forward Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) helped USI's presence underneath as she finished the game with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Freshman guard Lauren Parrish (Shepherdsville, Kentucky) added nine points and four assists, while senior forward Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

In the first period, the Eagles, who trailed just one time during the contest, put together a 15-2 run to build a commanding 28-14 lead. USI finished the opening 20 minutes with a 36-28 lead after holding the Greyhounds to just nine field goals.

Indianapolis (20-7, 14-6 GLVC) cut USI's lead to one point early in the second half, but a 38-18 run that lasted nearly 12 minutes put the Eagles up by 21 (77-56) with less than five minutes to play.

USI's win combined with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's loss at Quincy University means that the Screaming Eagles will enter the GLVC Tournament Thursday, March 4, as the fifth seed and will play the fourth seed, Lewis University.

Tip-off for USI's first-round game with Lewis is to be announced. Other first-round match-ups in the GLVC Tournament include the top seed, Quincy, and the eighth seed, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Bellarmine University, the second seed, will take on Wisconsin-Parkside, the seventh seed, and Indianapolis, the third seed, will take on Northern Kentucky, the sixth seed.

The Eagles will be looking to keep their six-game winning streak in the GLVC Tournament alive.
