USI hits century mark for fourth time in February

Evansville, IN—The #17-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team went over the century mark for the fourth time in February in a 117-69 victory over Saint Joseph's College Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record 21-5 overall and 14-5 in the GLVC, while SJC falls to 14-12, 10-9 GLVC.

The victory, plus the Kentucky Wesleyan College overtime victory over the University of Indianapolis, clinches the number two seeding in the GLVC Tournament next week. USI's first round opponent is still to be determined.

The Screaming Eagles burst out of the gate Thursday evening building a 22-9 lead in the first nine minutes of the first half. USI extended its lead to as many as 21 points by intermission, 47-26.

In the second half, the Eagles continued its offensive explosion. USI led by more than 30 points for over 10 minutes of the second half and by as many as 50 points, 117-67, with 25 seconds to play.

Senior center John Oden (St. Louis, Missouri) and senior forward Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois) led seven USI players to score in double figures with their fourth double-doubles of the year. Oden had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Harris dropped in 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

They were joined in the double-figure scoring column by senior guard Mike Arnold (Indianapolis, Indiana) with 14 points. Junior guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) added 12 points, while junior forward Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) dropped in 11 points and junior guard Aaron Austin (Chicago Heights, Illinois) and senior guard Avery Queen (Moreno Valley, California) had 10 points each.

The Eagles complete the regular season schedule Saturday, February 28, when they host the University of Indianapolis for Senior Day. Game times Saturday are 1 p.m. for the women's game and 3:15 p.m. for the men's game.
