EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Sophomore outside hitter
Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) has been named GLVC "Player of the Week" for her efforts in leading the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team to a 3-0 record last week and into sole possession of first place in the conference.
Ryan averaged 4.2 kills and 4.5 points per game as the Screaming Eagles defeated two of the top four teams in the GLVC.
She started the week with a career-high 19 kill performance in USI's 3-2 victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She had a career-high 20 kills in USI's sweep of the University of Indianapolis and had seven kills in USI's 3-0 victory over Saint Joseph's College.
It is the first time in Ryan's career that she has earned GLVC "Player of the Week" honors. She is the second USI player to earn league honors this year, joining junior middle blocker
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) who earned the honor three times.
The Eagles (18-5, 12-1 GLVC) will travel to Louisville, Kentucky, Saturday to take on Bellarmine University before heading to Florence, Alabama, Sunday to take on the defending national champion University of North Alabama. UNA is ranked 20th in the latest CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll.
USI needs to win two of the three GLVC matches remaining on its regular season schedule to clinch the number one seed in the league tournament as well as the hosting rights for the GLVC Tournament.
