The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team will get its first taste of regional action this Friday and Saturday, September 5-6, as it competes in the GLVC/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Challenge in Findlay, Ohio. The weekend is the first of two regional crossovers the Screaming Eagles will compete in.
USI (4-0) will play Lake Superior State University (0-4) and Hillsdale College (2-2) on Friday before finishing the weekend with Northwood University (2-2) and the University of Findlay (3-2) on Saturday.
Leading the way for USI is junior middle blocker
Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) and sophomore middle hitter
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana). Gross is averaging 4.62 kills and 3.54 digs per game while Ellerbusch is tapping in with 3.62 kills and 0.92 blocks per game.
Both Gross and Ellerbusch have been extremely consistent with their attack. Gross has a .471 attacking percentage while Ellerbusch has recorded a .365 attacking percentage.
Setting up USI's offensive is senior setter
Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio). Boehmer is averaging 13.08 assists to go along with 2.77 digs per game.
USI also has seen defensive support from freshman outside hitter
Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois). Probst leads the team with 3.69 digs per game.
The Eagles will compete in the Great Lakes Regional Crossover in Highland Heights, Kentucky, next Friday and Saturday, September 12-13. They will open conference play the following weekend at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
