USI wins fourth in a row

Southern Indiana (5-3-0, 4-0-0 GLVC): 3 @Saint Joseph’s (3-4-3, 0-2-2): 2

The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team won its fourth in a row with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, Sunday afternoon.

The USI men's team spotted the Pumas a two-goal lead in the first half before screaming back with three unanswered goals to earn the victory. The Screaming Eagles go to 5-3-0 overall and are a perfect 4-0-0 in the GLVC, while the SJC goes to 3-4-3 overall, 0-2-2 in the league.

For the fourth straight time during the USI winning streak, junior midfielder Ian Bray (Scotland) has a foot on the game winning goal. Bray scored the game winner at the 35:28 mark of the first half, scoring off a pass from senior midfielder/forward Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana).

During the winning streak, Bray has a pair of game winners and assisted on two game winners. For the season, Bray has seven points on two goals and three assists.

Down 2-0 after the first 19:00 of the match, Settles put USI on the board with an unassisted goal at 24:03. The Eagles tied the match two minutes later at 26:16 when freshman forward Neil Peluchette (Evansville, Indiana) scored off a of a pass from senior back Shawn Sloan (St. Peters, Missouri).

The goals tied Settles and Peluchette with senior midfielder Duncan Bray (Scotland) for the team lead with three apiece.

Between the posts, sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) picked up his four win in a row after starting the year with three losses. Penick allowed two goals, but made four saves.

Both USI soccer teams resume action Friday, October 3, when they return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field to host Bellarmine University for a GLVC doubleheader. Match times are 5 p.m. for the women's match and 7:30 p.m. for the men's.
