Evansville, IN—The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team reached 5-0-0 in the GLVC for the first time since 1990 with a 2-1 victory over Bellarmine University Friday evening at Strassweg Field. The 22nd-ranked Screaming Eagles go to 6-3-0 overall, while Bellarmine falls to 5-3-3 overall and 0-1-3 GLVC.
After a scoreless first half, the Knight got on the board first with a goal at the 56:38 mark. Knights freshman midfielder Ryan Coffey scored off a pass from sophomore back Andrew Zoeller to give Bellarmine a 1-0 lead.
USI bounced back five minutes later at the 61:00 mark when senior back
Shawn Sloan (St. Peters, Missouri) blasted a 35-yard shot into the back of the net. Sloan was assisted on his first goal of the year and his first as a Screaming Eagle by senior midfielder

Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana) scored the game-winner at the 74:18 mark to make the score 2-1. Settles scored his team-best fourth goal of the year off a pass from senior midfielder
Duncan Bray (Scotland), who crossed the ball into the box from the left side of the field. The assist was Bray's team-high fifth of the year.
The Eagles will resume the three-match homestand when they host Northern Kentucky University for a GLVC match Sunday, October 5, at 2:30 p.m. USI concludes the homestand next Friday, October 10, when 5th-ranked Truman State University comes to Strassweg Field for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
