The University of Southern Indiana soccer teams split a GLVC doubleheader with the University of Indianapolis Friday afternoon at the St. Frances Alliance Soccer Complex in Indianapolis. The USI women's team dropped a high-scoring 5-3 match, while the men's squad came away with a 1-0 victory.

The USI men's team made a first half goal stand-up to defeat Indianapolis and win its third in a row. USI raised its record to 4-3-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the GLVC, while Indianapolis fell to 1-3-4 overall and 0-1-2 in the GLVC.

The game winning goal was scored by freshman forward Neil Peluchette (Evansville, Indiana) at the 21:20 mark of the match. Peluchette was assisted on his second goal of the year by junior midfielder Ian Bray (Scotland), who has had a foot in each game winning goal during the winning streak.

Between the posts, sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) picked up his third win in a row and his second straight shutout. Penick faced seven shots and made three save to preserve the victory.

The USI women's team dug themselves a hole early, falling behind 3-0 in the first half before getting on the board. The Screaming Eagles cut the lead to 3-1 at the 76:14 mark with a goal by freshman midfielder Rebecca Cripe (Argos, Indiana). USI got as close as it would get when the Eagles cut the lead to 3-2 on the first of two goals by sophomore forward Alisann Shetler (Evansville, Indiana) at 78:14.

The Greyhounds responded by two unanswered goals to increase their lead to 5-2. The Eagles attempted to restart the offensive engine but could only muster one more goal in the final minutes. Shetler scored her second of the game at the 89:25 mark for the final score of 5-3.

USI falls to 4-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the GLVC, while Indianapolis goes to 4-4-1 and 1-1-1 in the conference.

The USI soccer teams will conclude the two-match road-swing when they travel to Saint Joseph's College Sunday, September 28.
