It took 11 tries, but the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team made good on their 11th corner kick of the match to come away with a 2-1 double-overtime victory against Lewis University Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field in Evansville, Indiana.

The Screaming Eagles (4-3-0 overall, 1-1-0 GLVC) had been unsuccessful in their previous 10 corner kick attempts, but their 11th was golden as junior forward Alisann Shetler (Evansville, Indiana) kicked the ball just left of Lewis goalkeeper Courtney Hutt, giving the Eagles their first victory in three games.

Freshman forward Kara Marcum (Evansville, Indiana) set Shetler up on the corner kick which produced Shetler's fourth goal of the season.

Earlier in the match, USI senior forward Aisha Earle-Smith (Spring, Texas) scored on a break-away to tie the match at 1-1 with 32 minutes to play in regulation. With the goal, Earle-Smith broke a tie for third place on USI's all-time goal leaders' list. She now has 16 in her career.

The Eagles fell behind in the first half when Lewis's Caroline Kenny scored from 10 yards out. Lewis's Stacy Beaman and Michelle Sternbauer were credited with an assist on the play.

Defensively, the Eagles were strong, giving up just four shots in the second half and another in the first overtime period. Freshman goalkeeper Casey Hrvatin (Evansville, Indiana) recorded four saves in nearly 104 minutes of work as she improved to 4-3 on the season.

USI will be on the road this Friday, September 26, when it visits the University of Indianapolis. The Eagles will finish their two-match road trip with a trip to Rensselaer, Indiana, to take on Saint Joseph's College. Both matches are slated to begin at noon.
