USI men’s soccer wins second in a row Eagles go to 2-0-0 in GLVC

Southern Indiana (3-3-0, 2-0-0): 1 Lewis (2-4-2 1-1-0): 0

Evansville, IN—The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team raised its record back to the .500 mark and its conference record to 2-0-0 with a 1-0 victory over Lewis University Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI, which has won 12 straight at Strassweg Field, is 3-3-0 overall, while Lewis falls to 2-4-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the GLVC.

USI senior forward/midfielder Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana) scored the game winner at the 66:08 mark, shooting from 10 yards out on the right side of the goal. Settles, who picked up his second goal of the year, was assisted on the play by the Bray and Bray brother combination.

Senior midfielder Duncan Bray (Scotland) started the scoring play by passing the ball from the left side to junior midfielder Ian Bray, who was at the top of box in the center of the field. Ian Bray controlled the ball and whirled, passing the ball to Settles for the winning shot.

Over the last two games, Ian Bray has come off the bench to score the game winner in the overtime victory over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday night and assist on the game winner Sunday.

The Eagles' defense sparkled, withstanding a total of 19 Lewis shots, eight on-goal. USI sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) shined with eight spectacular saves, five coming in the second half.

The Eagles go back on the road next week for a two-match road trip. USI will travel to the University of Indianapolis, Friday, September 26, and to Saint Joseph's College Sunday, September 28. The kick off at Indianapolis will be 3 p.m., while the start time at SJC is 2:30 p.m. The next home game is Friday, October 3, when Bellarmine University comes to Strassweg Field for a 7:30 p.m. match-up.
