Evansville, IN—University of Southern Indiana junior midfielder
Ian Bray (Scotland) scored the game winner just 2:37 into "sudden victory" overtime to lead the Screaming Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday evening at Strassweg Field. USI's earned its first GLVC victory of the year and broke its two-match losing streak in raising its record to 2-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the GLVC.
Ian Bray scored from five-yards out on the left side, assisted on the play by freshman forward
Neil Peluchette (Evansville, Indiana) and senior forward/midfielder
Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana). The goal was
Ian Bray's first as a Screaming Eagle.
The Eagles took the lead, 1-0, in the first half on a goal by senior midfielder
Duncan Bray (Scotland). Bray scored on a give-and-go with freshman forward
Andrew Hanlon (Noblesville, Indiana). The goal was
Duncan Bray's team-leading third of the year.
UWP, which saw its record fall to 3-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the GLVC, tied the game with just 1:03 to play. Sophomore forward Greg Walasek put the ball into the back of the net after capitalizing on a USI defensive miscue in the box.
The next action for the Eagles will be Sunday, September 21, when they host Lewis University for a 2:30 p.m. match. The game will be a part of a GLVC doubleheader with the women's match starting at noon.
