Evansville, IN—A single goal spelled defeat for the University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team in a highly contested exhibition game with Mid-Continent College Saturday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI finishes the exhibition season 0-2-0 and will open the regular season Sunday, August 31, at McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois.
Mid-Continent – a squad comprised of six players from Argentina three from Kenya one from Chile and one from Uruguay – scored the game's only goal in the first half when forward Sebastian Felman knocked in the rebound of a shot by forward Edwin Nyamwala. The Cougars made that one goal stand up as goalkeepers Sebastian Perez and Dustin Crane were a perfect 14-of-14 in save opportunities.
With the exception of one goal, USI sophomore goalkeeper
Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) and junior goalkeeper
Josh Hill (Maple Park, Illinois) were a wall for the Eagles. Hill led the pair with three saves in the second half, including the block of a penalty kick with 11:25 to play.
The first home match for the Eagles will be Sunday, September 7, against Spalding University. USI will open GLVC action Friday, September 19, when it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at Strassweg Field.
