University of Southern Indiana senior left-hander Brian Anderson (Brazil, Indiana) had a no-hitter through five innings in leading the Screaming Eagles to a 10-6 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College Wednesday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI raises its record to 19-23 overall and 9-13 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while KWC falls to 20-18 overall, 12-12 GLVC.

Anderson used his defense, setting down 15 of the first 17 KWC batters he faced without the need of a strikeout. Following a four-run sixth, Anderson set down nine in a row before senior right-hander Dan Tomashek (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) came into to get his third save of the season.

For the game, Anderson went 8 2/3 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits. He raised his record to a team-high 6-4 in 2003.

Offensively, senior rightfielder Steve Owen (Wauwatosa, Wisconsin) led the Eagles with three hits, two runs scored, a triple, a home run, and three RBIs. Owen collected all three of his RBIs with his seventh home run of the year. The three-run clout came in the fourth inning, sailing over the fence in right center.

Sophomore first baseman Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana), senior third baseman Justin Konopacki (Ft. Wayne, Indiana), senior second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana), and senior catcher Paul Kohler (Arnold, Missouri) collected a pair of hits each. Konopacki and Schiff also drove in a pair of runs.

The Eagles will have a quick turn around, traveling to Oakland City University for a 3 p.m. single game. USI returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, in Rensselaer, Indiana, for a three-game series with Saint Joseph's College. The first pitch for Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game is scheduled for noon.
